Christianity and the Constitution: The Faith of Our Founding Fathers by John Edisome argues that America’s founding Fathers were deeply influenced by their Chrisian faith, which shaped their views on republican government and legal principles. The book uses writings, diaries, and letters of figures like Washington, Jefferson, and Franklin to show their biblical and religious influences on the formation of the Constitution. The book asserts that the Founding Fathers’ Chriatian beliefs provided the moral and religious foundation for the U.S. Constitution and American liberty.
To me, Liberty is found in the Christian faith when you can understand that in giving your life to God you are crucified to both the death and resurrection of Christ and therefore death has no power over you. I believe when a person can realize this truth, they are truly free, because this truth removes all fear. And finally one can live with the peace of eternal life knowing that the worst the world can do to them (kill them), will only bring them to their Father in heaven. The history this book recounts is important to me because it shows how one of the main components that led to the nation we have today was the Christian faith of the founding fathers. You have to admit that what these men were able to do was quite remarkable, and I don’t think they would have succeeded if they didn’t have such strong convictions. This book reminds me of a verse I go to often: “But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible” - Matthew 19:26, and reminds me of how much I can accomplish when I live with God at the forefront of my motives.
