Auswanderung nach den Vereinigten Staaten
Given America's origin as British colonies, it is not surprising that the majority of immigration originated from England, Scotland, Ireland, and the Scots-Irish. By the middle of the 19th century, German immigrants were the second largest group, only surpassed by the Irish, and would peak as the largest immigrant nationality around 1900. Kottenkamp’ work, written entirely in German, was intended to serve as a guide for those looking to emigrate from the German states by identifying different regions in America that presented agricultural or business opportunities. Many German immigrants followed guides like this to form new communities in America’s Midwest, where German ancestry is still common today.
