El Gobernador Constitucional del departamento de Mexico, a sus habitantes
Mexico’s independence was declared in 1821, but the Spanish government did not recognize their former colony’s separation until the signing of the Santa María–Calatrava Treaty in 1836. That treaty was not published in Mexico until 1838, with this leaflet by the Constitutional Governor of Mexico announcing the formal end of hostilities with Spain. This publication credits much of the success of Mexico to Agustín de Iturbide, known as the “Hero of Iguala,” who became the first Emperor of Mexico from 1822 to 1823 before his execution in 1824.
