Liberty and Freedom at Lehigh
This year, America celebrates her 250th birthday. Lehigh University was founded in 1865, 89 years after the birth of America and a mere three and a half months after the end of the Civil War. Through the years, students and professors have expressed the ideals of freedom and liberty that America was founded upon. When issues of civil liberties arise, from women's suffrage to civil rights, the Lehigh community has been involved from the start, whether through courses or lectures, or reporting on various movements. Selected materials from the University Archives displayed here trace the history of these issues.
