This autobiographical work, told from Ruth’s perspective, was mostly written by Bob Considine as Ruth was battling cancer at the time. The book focuses on Ruth’s life, the character of the teams he played on, and his often fraught relationship with management. Well known for his drinking and womanizing, Ruth’s on-field performance and public persona made him immensely popular in American culture. This notoriety remains true today, over 80 years after Ruth last played professional baseball.
