-Field of Dreams
Based on W.P. Kinsella’s novel, Shoeless Joe, Field of Dreams is the story of Ray Kinsella, an Iowa farmer who hears a voice that tells him, “If you build it, they will come.” He converts a field of corn into a baseball diamond, sacrificing much needed income from the crops of corn usually generated by that field and putting his future ownership of the farm in jeopardy. “They” turns out to be Shoeless Joe Jackson and several of the infamous 1919 White Sox, banned from baseball for life because they threw the 1919 World Series. Field of Dreams uses baseball as an allegory for redemption, second chances, and the importance of following your heart.
