Baseball is a game of records, some of which are considered to be “unbreakable.” For 34 seasons, Babe Ruth's single-season home run record of 60 home runs was considered to be unbreakable. Then, in 1961, Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris both had a chance to break Ruth’s record. 61* follows their race to hit more than 60 home runs in a single season. The asterisk refers to the fact that Babe Ruth set his record in a shorter season.  One record that probably will never be broken is that from 1929 to 1998, the single-season home run record was held by a Yankee.
