-Iowa Baseball Confederacy

In his second novel, W.P. Kinsella returns to the two topics about which he mainly wrote: baseball and indigenous peoples.  Less known than his first novel, Shoeless Joe, Iowa Baseball Confederacy centers on an epic baseball game in which the 1908 Chicago Cubs played a team from the minor league Iowa Baseball Confederacy in a game that lasted for over 2,000 innings and for which there is no proof that it actually occurred. Main character Gideon Clark and best friend Stan Rogalski, a minor league baseball player with major league aspirations, slip through a crack in time to prove that the game actually happened. In the process, they experience tragedy and loss, and at the end of it all, oddly enough, there is hope.
