Libraries as Reference

Librarians have traditionally been a trusted resource for accurate information that can be difficult to locate or verify. The role of the reference librarian has changed in the past few decades as resources have become easier to discover and access. What previously required highly specialized reference works compiled by individual editors in painstaking detail can now be accomplished through open, crowdsourced platforms. While serving as reference intermediaries may no longer be a crucial part of a librarian’s job, libraries still serve as the gateway through which historical or subscription based information can be accessed. On display are selections of old or interesting reference books that the Lehigh Libraries continue to make available.
