Acts Passed at a Congress of the United States of America

The first step in collecting and preserving government records is to create a functioning government that documents its own activities. While colonial and state governments predate the founding of the federal government, official U.S. records have been published continuously since 1789. The first Congressional acts documented in this work include establishing oaths of office for elected and appointed officials as well as rules dictating how foreign goods could be legally imported into America. Lehigh University became an official Federal Depository Library in 1876. Lehigh pledged to help preserve and make accessible government records. The Lehigh Libraries will be celebrating 150 years as a Depository Library in 2026.
