Of the Decorative Illustration of Books Old and New
In this volume, Walter Crane takes a critical look at the art of book illustration. Some of Crane’s contemporaries took an approach to book art that privileged realism. Crane instead took the position that the illustrations should be decorative and emphasized an idealistic portrayal of the world in a book’s illustrations.
