Lilac Fairy Book
Like Walter Crane, Andrew Lang was an admirer of William Morris. To support himself and his wife, Lang wrote for periodicals like Saturday Review, Blackwood’s, and Punch. A man who was talented in many diverse fields, Lang also wrote multiple scholarly papers about anthropology and folklore, and was well-known for his poetry. The Fairy Books are Lang’s contribution to children’s literature, with the Lilac Fairy Book being the last of the series. The Deborah and Alfred Judson Barcan Collection contains one copy of each of Lang’s Fairy Books.
