A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court

Published in the same year in London and Toronto in addition to this New York printing, A Connecticut Yankee is Twain’s tale of a time-traveler who leaves 19th century Hartford for 6th century England after a head injury. The time traveller, an engineer, uses his modern knowledge of technology and industry to rise to power in medieval England. By contrasting between 19th century America and 6th century Europe, Twain satirizes the notions of romantic sensibilities held by modern society that were closely associated with the medieval era.
