Mercator was a pioneer cartographer Gerhard Mercator’s (1512-1594) Atlas minor Gerardi Mercatoris. (Arnhemii: apud Joannem Janssonium), published in 1621.  

The first image shows the title page of this work, while the second contains a two-hemisphere map. The third image is a map of the Americas.

The fourth image provides a view of the Arctic. The Arctic pole appears to be an island situated in a small sea.  The fifth image is a map of the world that superficially resembles the original 1569 Mercator map.
