-The Wind in the Willows
Originally written for his son Alastair, Kenneth Grahame based these stories on his own life on the English riverside. The main character of the book is Mr. Toad, who lives in Toad Hall, a historic brick manor built on the River Bank, with underground tunnels. Another notable imaginary place in this work is Mole End, the home of Mr. Mole, that is decorated with statues and prints. This work was a favorite of Winnie-the-Pooh author A. A. Milne, who read the stories to his son Christopher Robin and adapted it into the stage play Toad of Toad Hall. The popularity of Wind in the Willows was also boosted by the 1949 animated film The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad by Walt Disney Productions.
