Built in 1970, Sinclair Laboratory was originally the home of the National Printing Ink Research Institute. The International Materials Institute as well as the office of the Vice President of Research is housed in the building. The building is named for Francis MacDonald Sinclair as a gift from his widow, Jennie H. Sinclair. An addition in 2005 was named The Smith Family Center for Optical Technologies.
