Clarence Walter Hudson

Clarence Walter Hudson (1867-1943)

Clarence W. Hudson was born in Manasquan, NJ. He graduated from Lehigh University in 1889 with a civil engineering degree. His graduation thesis, co-authored with Charles Deans, was about building a modern bridge over Lehigh River to connect South and North Bethlehems.

He worked for the Phoenix Bridge Co. of Phoenix, PA. from 1892 to 1906 as a bridge designer. Then, from 1907 to 1927,  he was named Professor of Civil Engineering in charge of the Department of Civil Engineering at the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn.

Hudson designed the Hill-to-Hill Bridge and was the engineer in charge. For his contributions to the engineering field, Lehigh awarded him the honorary Doctor of Engineering degree in 1925. He was a trustee of Lehigh University from 1924 until 1932. Clarence W. Hudson died on May 12, 1942.
