While children weren’t being directly marketed towards in these Sears catalogs, their mothers were looking through for clothes for their children. Perhaps the kids were also flipping through, seeing what their mom would buy. Of course, they would have seen these sections, dedicated to clothes for “chubby” and “hard-to-fit” girls and boys. One will notice that none of the girls on these pages appear to be anything larger than normal, and the wording insinuates that they need special, slenderizing garments. Parallels between these pages and the ones suggesting adults need their clothes to be slimming are easy to draw.
