Bulletin de Pharmacie
The Bulletin began publication in 1809 and still exists today as the Annales Pharmaceutiques Francaises. Each issue contained articles, correspondence, short reports ("observations"), digests of articles from other sources, information on current legislation, summaries of scientific meetings, and even book reviews. The annual index categorized these as pharmacology, practical techniques, chemistry, charlatanism and the like. Almost exclusively text, the occasional table or drawing of an instrument appears. The authors were often named (as opposed to the common practice of modest anonymity) but with little indication of their expertise beyond the soubriquet of "pharmacist." Aside from the paper format, it bears a remarkable resemblance to any professional journal published in 2009, 200 years later.
