Connecting with Readers
Like other scientific publishers, even the august Royal Society is exploiting many forms of Web 2.0 media to connect with a new generation of researchers and students. Through its partnership with Highwire Press, which produces the electronic version of the journal, Philosophical Transactions offers such services as alerts, cross references , links to related work, social bookmarking, illustrations that can be captured as PowerPoint slides and audio supplementary files – none of which are available in the corresponding print edition.
