Travel
In this day of affordable, speedy trans-Atlantic flights and snapchats from around the world, it may be hard to imagine a time when experiencing a different culture meant a month-long voyage by boat (if one had the means to travel) or the vicarious experience of letters and journals sent back to those who were left behind. Travelogues, postcards, and other letters home detailing sights and discoveries made during long-distance journeys enjoyed great popularity with readers during the pre-Internet age.
