Wilkie Collins

Wilke Collins (1824-1889). Manuscript. Prior to 1874 October. “Fatal Fortune: A True Story.”

An English novelist who wrote sensation fiction, Wilkie Collins's most popular works include The Woman in White (1860) and The Moonstone (1868.) Collins's manuscript is a short story told from the perspective of a woman who falls in love with a man accused of insanity by scheming executors to disenfranchise him of his fortune. One of Collins’s lesser-known works, Fatal Fortune: A True Story provides an opportunity for fresh scholarship about a much-studied author.
