This dinner was convened to honor Lehigh President Deming Lewis on the occasion of a scholarship endowment fund in the amount of more than $250,000 being established by members of the Asa Packer Society and others. In attendance were the President and Mrs. Lewis, Donald Stabler, Ed Snyder & Ivor Sims among many distinguished guests.

Lee Iacocca has been a popular choice as a commencement speaker for thirty years. In addition to his alma mater Lehigh University, he presented commencement addresses at George Washington University; the University of Michigan; Hillsdale College; Fairleigh Dickinson University; Michigan State University; the City Magnet School in Lowell, Massachusetts; Johns Hopkins University; and Valparaiso University Law School.
In this Lehigh address, Iacocca references his college days, the economy, jobs, and the Chrysler Corporation. He advises graduates to “use your diploma, use spirit, your intelligence, and especially your common sense, for the common good” as he encourages them to go out into the world without fear.
